In a shocking revelation, an old video has resurfaced, showing Vice President Kamala Harris once advocating for the forced entry of homes to inspect how legal gun owners store their firearms. The remarks were made during her time as San Francisco District Attorney in 2007, at a press conference with then-Mayor Gavin Newsom, where Harris introduced stringent anti-gun legislation.
Harris’s statement was clear: “Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean we’re not going to walk into that home and check if you’re being responsible.” The implications of her words sent ripples through the media, raising questions about personal freedom and governmental overreach. This wasn’t merely about enforcing laws but, as Harris herself put it, encouraging “certain types of behavior.”
San Francisco’s Strict Gun Control Legacy
At the time of the press conference, the legislation Harris helped draft aimed to crack down on gun owners who failed to store their firearms securely. Among the most contentious aspects was the provision allowing authorities to enter private residences to ensure compliance. Newsom, who eventually signed the bill into law, touted it as making San Francisco’s anti-gun laws the toughest in the country.
But this wasn’t just about inspections. The new law included measures like requiring gun distributors to submit inventory reports to the police every six months and banning the possession of firearms in public housing. It wasn’t subtle—it was a broad and aggressive move against the rights of legal gun owners.
Kamala Harris’s history with gun control doesn’t stop at local legislation. As recently as her run for president, she openly declared her support for firearm confiscation and promised executive action if Congress didn’t act swiftly enough. Harris’s stance on gun control has always been uncompromising, and she hasn’t wavered in her belief that stricter regulations, even at the cost of individual rights, are the answer.
Harris’s Continued Push for Gun Control
On Tuesday, Harris once again reignited the gun control debate by calling for a ban on “assault weapons”—a term many gun advocates argue is nothing more than a political buzzword. The idea of banning weapons based on how they look rather than their actual functionality is, frankly, misleading.
Harris’s aggressive stance on gun control has been a cornerstone of her political career, and while her supporters see her as a champion of public safety, critics view her actions as an infringement on personal freedoms. It’s clear she’s not backing down, and her history suggests that, given the chance, she’d take further steps to curtail gun ownership rights.
Our Take
Kamala Harris’s long-standing efforts to restrict gun ownership, including the willingness to invade the homes of law-abiding citizens, reveal a dangerous level of government intrusion. What’s more troubling is her belief that it’s acceptable to sidestep personal liberties in the name of promoting “certain types of behavior.” When the government starts using the guise of safety to infringe on constitutional rights, it sets a dangerous precedent.
If Harris’s views on gun control were ever fully realized, Americans could find themselves stripped of fundamental rights. Personal responsibility is one thing, but empowering the government to dictate how citizens store their legal possessions? That’s a slippery slope that no one should be eager to step on.

Believe them when they tell you. Harris says that she thinks confiscating your firearms is a “great idea” and if Congress doesn’t act on it during the first 100 days of her administration, she’ll take “executive action”. pic.twitter.com/Swpuv1qIVs
