Hollywood legend Barbra Streisand stirred up a storm with her recent comments about Donald Trump. She declared that Trump deserved to be assassinated because of his ‘bigoted’ views. Her outburst on X came after the failed assassination attempt on the former president.
Streisand justified the would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, saying he was frequently bullied at school. She implied that this bullying motivated him to target Trump, whom she labeled as a bully himself. “Thomas Matthew Crooks was a registered Republican but was bullied a lot in school. Trump has always been branded a bully. Maybe that’s what motivated him,” Streisand posted.
The Near-Miss at the Rally
During a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump narrowly avoided death when he turned his head at the last moment, causing the bullet to hit his ear instead of a more vital area. This incident was a central topic in his speech at the Republican National Convention.
Trump spoke emotionally about the event, saying, “I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” and later adding, “I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of Almighty God.” His comments highlighted the gravity of the situation and his sense of having been spared for a reason.
Streisand’s Silence on Biden
Interestingly, Streisand, unlike many of her Hollywood peers, hasn’t called for President Joe Biden to drop out of the re-election race. However, she has been notably silent on Biden since his embarrassing debate performance last month, where he fumbled in front of millions of viewers.
Her silence is intriguing, given her vocal stance against Trump. This contrast raises questions about her political motives and the broader Hollywood elite’s influence on public opinion. The intersection of celebrity opinions and politics continues to be a point of contention in American discourse.
Our Take
Streisand’s incendiary remarks are not just irresponsible but dangerous. Advocating violence, even indirectly, undermines the democratic process and fuels division. This kind of rhetoric can have severe consequences, encouraging more instability and hatred in an already polarized society.
