For the second time in a month, President Joe Biden appears to have thrown his vice president, Kamala Harris, under the bus. Whether intentional or not, these public missteps continue to undermine her political credibility, and, quite frankly, it’s handing Republicans a gift on a silver platter.
Last month, Biden went on The View and casually mentioned that he had delegated everything from foreign to domestic policy to Harris. While it might have seemed like a harmless comment, it directly contradicts her carefully crafted narrative that she hasn’t had enough control over the administration’s decisions—an effort to distance herself from Biden’s less popular policies.
Biden’s Slip on “The View”
During his appearance on The View, Biden attempted to paint Harris in a positive light, but his words did more damage than good. He stated, “As Vice President, there wasn’t a single thing that I did that she couldn’t do.” While that sounds like high praise, the immediate implication is that Harris was directly involved in both the successes and failures of the administration—a message she has been trying to avoid.
For Harris, who’s been positioning herself as someone capable of leading without Biden’s baggage, this was a significant blow. She’s worked to create distance, suggesting that many of Biden’s unpopular policies would have been different under her leadership. However, with Biden implying she had her hands on everything from foreign policy to domestic, her campaign narrative took a serious hit.
Even though Biden’s words might not have been malicious, they certainly came off as a political misstep. And Republicans, who have been waiting for cracks in the Biden-Harris partnership, didn’t miss the opportunity to pounce.
Another Gaffe During Hurricane Milton
The second incident occurred just this past week when Biden took a direct call from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis regarding Hurricane Milton. As Biden praised DeSantis’ handling of the hurricane response, it became clear he had once again undercut Harris—this time on a more public and sensitive stage.
Harris had been in a spat with DeSantis, accusing him of playing politics and even going so far as to suggest that he had refused to take her call. However, DeSantis firmly denied this claim during a press conference, stating that he wasn’t even aware Harris had reached out. Meanwhile, Biden was on the phone with DeSantis, talking about disaster relief and praising his efforts.
For Harris, this was another public relations nightmare. As she tries to appear strong and engaged during natural disasters, her own president was not only taking calls she claimed were ignored but also praising the very person she was accusing of playing political games. It was a brutal contrast.
Our Take
Biden’s consistent gaffes and contradictions are not just embarrassing for the White House—they are politically damaging for Kamala Harris. Whether he means to or not, Biden has now twice weakened Harris’s position at crucial moments. For a vice president already struggling with her public image, this kind of undercutting could be devastating in the long run.
From a conservative perspective, these slip-ups showcase a lack of coordination and unity within the Democratic Party. It’s clear that Harris is trying to craft her own identity, but with Biden accidentally dragging her down at every turn, she’s failing to separate herself from an administration that’s already losing public favor.
In the end, these blunders make the Democrats appear disorganized, divided, and out of touch—especially when Harris is caught between playing politics and responding to national crises. Whether these mistakes are intentional or not, they leave her looking weak, and that can only benefit Republicans as they prepare for the next election.
